A new model for conservation. The Chesapeake Fund is an innovative conservation model that enables citizens to become directly involved in nitrogen reduction projects across the watershed. Through the Fund, you can help clean up the Bay by calculating your nitrogen emissions, learning ways to reduce those emissions, and then offseting the remainder by donating to the Chesapeake Fund. We then invest your donation in effective on-the-ground restoration projects across the region.

If you live in the Bay watershed, your day-to-day activities have an impact. But exactly how much? The Nitrogen Footprint Calculator is designed to answer that question. The calculator asks you simple questions about your home and automobile usage and then estimates your impact in pounds of nitrogen produced per year. Watershed residents can then change their behavior and invest in restoration project through the Chesapeake Fund by purchasing offsets. By investing in the Chesapeake Fund, you are purchasing a cleaner, healthier watershed.
